Job Title: First Youth Director


Job Requirements: The First Youth Director must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, ministry, or a related field. Work skills include proficiency in planning and facilitating engaging and fun opportunities for fellowship, service, education, and spiritual formation for students in grades 6 through 12. The First Youth Director must have excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills and must be capable of effectively recruiting, training, and cooperating with volunteers.


Job Summary: The First Youth Director oversees, plans, and facilitates a program of engaging and fun opportunities for fellowship, service, education, and spiritual formation for students between ages thirteen and eighteen. To fulfill these responsibilities, the First Youth Director must recruit, train and deploy volunteers effectively.


1. Programming Responsibilities: The First Youth Director plans and facilitates engaging and fun opportunities for fellowship, service, education, and spiritual formation for students in grades 6 through 12.


(1) Plans, facilitates, and recruits volunteers to lead on-going, seasonal and occasional youth ministries including:


a. Sunday School

b. Weekly youth group meeting with fellowship and programming.

c. Resurrection

d. Easter sunrise service

e. Summer mission trip

f. Summer fellowship and recreational activities

g. Annual Christmas project for families in need


(2) Regularly reviews, selects, and evaluates the effectiveness of curriculum for youth ministries and programs.


(3) Encourages youth to participate in connectional events, including district rallies, Gifts & Talents competition, conference camps and Youth Assembly.


2. Administrative/Communication Responsibilities: The First Youth Director oversees the youth ministry program and maintains effective communication with youth, their parents, volunteers and the congregation.


(1) Regularly recruits and provides training for volunteers, teachers, and mentors to work with youth in all activities and programs of the First Youth ministries.


(2) Implements and upholds the church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy, both in training volunteers and in leading the activities and programs of the church’s youth ministries.


(3) Regularly and effectively communicates with youth, their parents, and volunteers about upcoming activities, programs, and other opportunities via phone, text, email, website, worship bulletins, email, newsletter, social media and other means.


(4) Prepares monthly First Youth ministry article for the church newsletter and communicates regularly and effectively with the congregation by other means, including worship bulletins, announcements, website, emails, texts and social media.


(5) Regularly and effectively communicates with staff about schedule, events, facility use, transportation use and anything that will promote and lift up the youth program.


3. Care Responsibilities: The First Youth Director demonstrates and models the love of Jesus Christ by nurturing and caring for participants in the church youth ministries.


(1) Develops and maintains appropriate loving relationships with youth by attending their extracurricular activities, visiting their homes, etc.


(2) As needed, advises, supports, and prays with youth and their families during times of need, crisis, sickness or loss.


4. Professionalism: The First Youth Director fulfills all the responsibilities professionally, courteously, and with an intentional effort to exceed the expectations of church members and guests.


(1) Arrives sufficiently early to begin activities punctually.


(2) Maintains a neat, professional appearance, both in personal grooming and dress.


(3) Exercises professional courtesy toward other staff, church members and guests.


(4) Strives to improve skill set and efficiency by participating in at least one continuing education evert per year.


(5) Attends and faithfully participates in staff meetings and church council meetings


(6) Submits annual budget request to the Finance Committee and ensures that disbursements for youth ministries are within the allocated parameters


(7) Graciously performs other responsibilities occasionally as assigned by the pastor.
